Working with homeless children to
provide safety, support, accomodation
and education.
Santhosha Nanban believe that no child should be neglected.
Introduction
Santhosha Nanban is a Non Governmental Organisation in Pondicherry, India, which aims to improve the lives of street and working children. We are licensed by the Social Welfare Department of the Pondicherry Government. During twelve years of devoted work we have supported over six thousand children in a variety of different ways; we have evolved and moulded as an organisation to meet the changing needs of the children in the community we work within, to maintain their well being and provide protection.
We strive to provide maximum benefit to the children we support in all that we do; however we feel that our current location is no longer appropriate to fulfil our mission, it is the children who are suffering. After careful consideration, we have decided that the most efficient means to meet our objectives and our responsibilities to these children is to become a self sustai able organisation through the purchase of our own land. Here, we will continue to accomm date and support children in an environment purpose built to meet their needs, where the children will have the freedom and space to be children.

Kamal* was handed over to Santhosha Nanban by the police who had found him abandoned at the bus stand in the city. He was approximately two and a half years old when he arrived in 2003; he was dangerously thin, with no name and no possessions.
Staff placed advertisements in the local media to encourage relatives or anyone with information about the boy to come forward. There was no response. Thus, staff gave the boy a name and took over his care.
`Since his arrival, Santhosha Nanban has nursed Kamal back to good health and provided him with food, shelter, clothes, medical care and love. He is now a strong, healthy and cheerful young boy, with many friends at the hostel. He attends the organisation's Open School where he is proving to be a fast learner. Staff are currently preparing his entrance to local government school.
